type + travel

inspiration wednesday.
{type + travel}

inspiration this past week lands on type and travel.

J
essica hische was in grand rapids, and, well, she's pretty rad. seriously bummed I couldn't watch her do her thing at the GRAM, but it was still inspiring to have a typographer/illustrator like her in town.

i also came across this sculpture at meijer gardens. men made of metal letters. it's called I, you, she, or he... by Jaume Plensa.

and a bit of travel.

oh, and lovely madcap.

happy holiday weekend!

watercolor + letters

liefday monday.
{watercolor + letters}

memorial day. firsts of summer. hot sun. marshmallows. sweat. skirts. bathing suits. bellowing streets. bouncing porches. relaxation. a lovely way to say hello.
today's relaxation: watercolor and letters.

{watercolor travel pack. a summer must have}

{sip. sip. sip.}

{and so you paint your house pink, at least for may}

superpowers + type

inspiration wednesday.
{superpowers + type}

this week I listened to an old This American Life podcast about superpowers. ever think about those and what you would choose? mine would most definitely be a modern version of I dream of Jeannie. I mean really, cross those arms, twitch that nose and instantly be wherever you want? sweet. that coupled with remembering everything I have ever learned. those would be my top. what about you?

type has also been of inspiration for me this week. a friend and I have been in conversation about typography which peaked me to search some type blogs.

found some I really love:

happy wednesday!

alcott, ma ke + type

inspiration wednesday.
{alcott, ma ke + type}

this week has been packed with inspiration. getting out of one's routine and city does wonders for this sort of thing. thank you chicago. thank you dear friends.

first inspiration, this quote:

"I love beauty so much that I not only want to possess it myself, but to gain the power of seeing it in all things, and the art of reproducing it with truth." louisa may alcott.

this quote from louisa may alcott has completely inspired me this week. my friend ellen (who was such a joy and inspiration to see this weekend) has it written on her blog. I like the part of reproducing beauty with truth. this has a wonderful way of naming why I love to design + create. there is so much beauty to possess and be found, that through the act of creating I feel as though I have joined in on this galvanizing process.

and I got the new selvedge magazine this week. glorious.

there is a spread on the Chinese fashion designer, Ma Ke, that I am in LOVE with. it has little to do with her fashion designs, but everything to do with her apartment. gorgeous! eeep!

and, finally, I have been inspired by the typographer + illustrator, Adrian Johnson. i first stumbled upon his typography, which I love, but then found some of his illustrations. what's not to love about a regurgitating pac man and a donkey carrying a carrot?
