patience + robin's eggs

liefday monday.
{patience + robin's eggs}

happy fourth of july week. hope you had a chance to enjoy some summer.

I tried something new this week: dying fabric. i'm in a wedding this summer where I need to wear a robin's egg blue colored dress. i think it's fabulous and I love this color, but found it quite hard to find just the right dress. and just any dress won't do for this wedding, so I decided to dye and make it myself. you should try this at home, it is delightful. it's like a spiral of anticipation as you put your beautiful, crisp white fabric into a bin of splashing color that doesn't even resemble the hue that you hope it will be. and you wait, and stir, and wait, and inhale some toxic fumes, and stir, and wait, just hoping that the past two hours you spent folding and spinning your fabric will actually look the color you intended it to be. and then the moment comes; you wash, you dry, and tada, somehow, magically, it beams with robin's egg blue. and just like the tree, the girl was happy.

cheers!

stashes + carnivals

inspiration wednesday.
{stashes + carnivals}

so much inspiration this week. i limit it to two things: stashes and carnivals.

now, when you love fabric, and I mean love fabric, you understand the term stash. it has nothing to do with a man's face, but everything to do with textiles. it's the beautiful closet, or drawer, or pile, or whatever this may be for you, that just keeps growing. i was asked today, while checking out, what this gorgeous felt i was purchasing was going to be used for. I sat there for a moment, then realized I hadn't even thought about that. I just fell in love with the color, texture and combination, that the end product wasn't even on my radar. did I tell him it was for my stash? no, he wouldn't understand. will it be used? of course! do I know what yet?nope! but for now, my stash just got prettier. thank you sheep for your luscious wool, it makes me very, very happy.

and carnivals. creepy, exciting, inspiring, nostalgic, entertaining. colorful.

john ball zoo held it's carnival last weekend and laura and i jumped on the opportunity to see the sights. (and of course, play some games to win those to-die-for, completely worth your money, win every time, stuffed animals.) somehow we left there without a life sized bulldog, but we did go home with a 2"x4" stuffed one hundred dollar bill. we were happy.

stitch + knit

liefday monday.
{stitch + knit}

i love embroidery. have i said that recently?
its patience, texture, and simplicity get me every time. i am full of new ideas to incorporate this gorgeous art form into lief design.

here is a glimpse.

I also love knitting, although this takes some serious patience. but in the end, worth the time.

a bamboo neck wrap.

additional inspiration for new lief design projects = fabric. I went on a non-business trip to chicago this past weekend, however, I could not keep myself away from one of my favorite little fabric shops. just love what I do!

happy monday!
