magazines, shops + bluegrass

liefday 'monday'.
{magazines, shops + bluegrass}

okay, okay, it's been a little bit since my last post. my excuses for my hiatus. however, I needed to take a bit of a break and enjoy the last bits of summer and gear up for the fall.
yes, fall. I love fall.

my end of summer hurrah was spent on a road trip with my dear friend Teresa on her way out to maine. Pittsburgh's bridges, Massachusetts's beaches and Maine's beauty were very inspiring. wishing much happiness for you in maine!

this fall is wrapped with new avenues for lief design, and I am soo excited! Lief Design will be featured in the new InFrame Magazine that will be hitting the shops this thursday, september 8! Be sure to pick one up and see all the exciting wedding wares for the 2011-2012 wedding season.
also, I am thrilled (and honored!) to be selling goods at the new paper studio to open on Monroe Center starting in late September. Started by the talented Abbey Fowler from Syd Design, 6.25 Paper Studio will be the home to many lovely gifts, stationery and wrap. I will keep you updated on its happenings, but when you're downtown for ArtPrize, stop in and check out the new shop!

Music will be played by greensky bluegrass, a nationally known band, along with chets barbeque and standard pizza co. festivities start at 6. would love to see you down there!

save the dates + vacation

liefday monday.
{save the dates + vacation}

I took a vacation last week; it was the first in a very long time. recently, 'vacation' has come to mean "take-your-work-to-a-new-location-and-try-to-hang-out,-relax-and-enjoy-those-around-you-while-getting-everything-else-done." and let me tell you, that does not work. actually, it can be more stressful than just staying in my own studio. so, this time, I left work at home and just took a break. and it was so wonderful. I water-colored, wrote poetry, spent wonderful time with my family, sailed, drank delicious wine, ate way too much, and actually took a vacation.

so I have this really sweet Australian couple that I have been designing wedding goods for; they are simply great. it has been so lovely to get to know them and craft designs to fit their wedding. as we are completing the final save the dates, I wanted to show some of the other proofs that were designed along the way. I'll show the final save the dates once they have been sent out and received.

oh, and a big THANK YOU to all of you who came out to the show at Celedon! It was lovely to meet you.

cheers.

antiques, markets + katie day

inspiration wednesday.
{antiques, markets + katie day}

grandma, you inspire me. I was at my grandmother's house last night and I told her the story of how my mother gave all of her lovely hats to goodwill (gasp!) a few months back during her 'extreme purging' phase. (mother, when in doubt, ask me first if I would want any of your really great old accoutrements.) but it's okay, I forgive you, I really do understand the need to get rid of things you never wear....however, this conversation lead to my grandmother bringing out her hat she wore on her wedding day. just love it. two feathers plus velvet, what more does a hat need? i love the evolution of fashion; it's all coming back, it's all coming back.

Getting ready for the Celadon Artist Market tonight. If you happen to live in this great and growing town of Grand Rapids, you should come and check it out. Food (sandmanns), live music (Valentiger), and local GR vendors. New lief products will be there -- I'm excited!!

also, I met the really rad photographer this past weekend. not only is she amazing at what she does, she also is one of the coolest ladies around. you really should check her out. and to top it all, her name is Katie Day, how sweet is that?

cheers! em
